Kenco Practices Social Distancing During Home Inspections

If you are in the middle of buying or selling a home during this time of social distancing and wonder if you should still get a home inspection, the answer is yes! We are still here for you. Our team of trained home inspectors understand the steps to take to help keep our clients safe and comfortable during a home inspection.

We’ve set and communicated expectations for social distancing to our team members based on the current recommendations by the CDC. Therefore, we now practice social distancing during every home inspection.

We normally recommend that you are present during a home inspection. However, these times call for flexibility. If you prefer to skip being there, that is absolutely fine.

If you decide to be present during the home inspection, that is okay too. As a reminder, here are the list of things the CDC recommends and we implement:

1.     Washing Hands

One of the easiest ways to prevent getting sick or spreading the virus and other germs is to wash hands frequently. Our team members are encouraged to wash their hands often and thoroughly. If that is not an option, our team also has access to hand sanitizer to disinfect their hands.

2.     Staying 6 Feet Apart

This is the most important and easily followed guideline. Everyone should stay 6 feet apart, which is about 2 arms’ length. This distance greatly limits the spread of the virus.

Maintaining that space between each other means no shaking of hands or inspecting tight spaces together. However, it does not mean we cannot talk in person and explain everything about the home inspection to you.

3.     Self-Monitoring

Before our team members go to work and meet with you for a home inspection, they self-monitor. If they feel sick in any way, they are instructed to stay home. Especially if they show signs of a cough or fever.

We also ask that if you or anyone in your home feels sick or has a fever prior to your scheduled inspection, please let us know. We will reschedule your home inspection for a more convenient time when everyone is healthy.

4.     No Group Gatherings

Home inspections are not social gatherings and the groups are usually very limited. That is why we can still do our jobs. We try to limit the amount of people as much as possible.

Usually, it is just one inspector at a site. It is your choice whether or not you want to join the inspector during the inspection. It is not necessary and our home inspector can still conduct a home inspection either way. In addition, you receive a written, detailed report of the inspection.

5.     Wearing Masks

While wearing masks is not mandatory in the state of Florida, each local government may have different requirements. At this time, we are requiring our team to wear both masks and gloves during home inspections.

The CDC recommends wearing a mask in public settings where social distancing is difficult to maintain. While we are in your home and not a public setting during a home inspection, our goal is to ensure we minimize risks to you and your family.

By following the CDC guidelines, we can still provide you with our trusted home inspection services while prioritizing safety. We are still here for you and ready to work.
