Keep your home inspection ready with regular care and maintenance. One of the most used and important parts of a home is the kitchen. Whether you’re thinking about selling your home or plan to live there for a lifetime, a well-cared-for kitchen will serve you well.

Maintain Appliances

Appliances are the core components of the kitchen. They make food storage, cooking, and cleaning easier. Homeowners often don’t think about appliances until a problem arises. Appliances last longer and work better with regular maintenance. Deep clean the refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher at least twice each year with regular cleaning in between.

Repair any damage quickly to avoid a major issue. For older appliances, replace them after 10 years. Most newer models offer energy-efficient options that help you save money on water and energy usage.

Organize the Kitchen

Another big function of the kitchen is storage. Cooking utensils, dishes, food, and cleaning supplies need an organized and clean place to stay. Start by clearing out all clutter. Remove items you no longer use or want.

Then, create an orderly storage system. The smaller the space, the more good organization matters. Place the items you use most in places that are convenient to access. After you use an item, ensure it is returned to where it goes. This saves time when cooking and helps keep your kitchen efficient.

Clean Regularly

Dirty kitchens are gross. Not only that, but dirty appliances, countertops, and sinks wear out more quickly. Plus, uncleaned food can lead to unwanted pests. Take the time to clean the kitchen each day.

Wash all dishes, store any food items, wipe down countertops, and sweep the floor daily. Then, schedule deep cleaning quarterly. Clean the cabinets, walls, light fixtures, and decorative items to remove any built-up grease or dirt. This will help your kitchen look and smell better.

Create A Welcoming Space

The kitchen is the heart of the home. Define sitting spaces in the kitchen. This gives family members and guests a place to hang out without disrupting the work in the kitchen. Otherwise, you risk more mess and clutter entering the space.

When you take time to intentionally create a welcoming and orderly space, it’ll be easier to take care of and maintain the kitchen. Keeping a clean and organized kitchen also makes it easier for others to help with cooking and cleaning.

Maintain an Inspection Ready Kitchen

When we inspect a home, the kitchen is an area of focus because so many functions and components make up the area.

  • Check each appliance to see that it turns on or is running

  • Check the light switches and power outlets

  • Inspect for leaks and plumbing issues

  • Look for signs of mold growth

  • Note any visible chips or damage to countertops

  • Inspect the cabinet doors and drawers to ensure they open and close

  • Note any visible damage to the walls or floors

Our goal with a kitchen inspection is to highlight any issues so you can make an informed buying decision.
