6 Outdoor Kitchen Maintenance and Care Tips

An outdoor kitchen is a fun way to add value and space to your home. Here in Southeast Florida, we have the perfect weather to enjoy an outdoor kitchen throughout the year. However, to maintain the appeal and value, keep your kitchen looking and working its best.

An outdoor kitchen provides a great place to entertain, relax with family, and spend more time outside. Just don’t forget to clean and protect your investment.

1.     Add A Roof

Protect your outdoor kitchen from the elements by adding a roof. Most of the parts in an outdoor kitchen can withstand the weather. Yet, over time, the daily wear and tear add up. A covered patio or porch protects the space. Plus, a roof provides shade and allows you to use the space even in a drizzle. With a roof, the room actually feels like an extension of the home.

2.     Keep It Organized

Build storage solutions into your outdoor kitchen to keep your tools and supplies organized, clean, and safe. It’s easier to keep your outdoor kitchen clean when the supplies you need are neatly stored and quick to access. Also, your kitchen tools and elements stay cleaner and in better shape when properly stored.

3.     Clean the Grill

It’s tempting to simply use a brush to wipe the grates before the next use. However, for improved grill maintenance, clean the grates after each use. If the grill has burners, clean those regularly to remove greasy build-up. Depending on how frequently you use the grill, conduct a deep clean between once per week and once per month.

4.     Check Appliance Connections

If you use your outdoor kitchen year-round, check the appliance connections quarterly. If you only use the kitchen during specific times of the year, check the connections at the start of the season. Check for a secure gas line. Also, check electrical cords and outlets for damage. Repair any issues to avoid a gas leak or electrical fire.

5.     Wash Countertops and Tables

Keep your outdoor kitchen clean. After every use, disinfect the surfaces to remove bacteria. Clean up any spills to avoid stains on porous materials, like wood or stone surfaces. Plus, a clean outdoor kitchen is less likely to attract pests.

6.     Cover When Not in Use

Invest in quality covers for your outdoor kitchen and furniture. Cover appliances, countertops, and other equipment. Not only will the covers keep your kitchen clean for the next use, but protecting it from the elements extends the life of the kitchen.
